What is Environmental Engineering?
Environmental engineering is a subfield of engineering that is concerned with the protection and preservation of the environment and environmental resources as well as the protection of populations from environmental threats. Environmental engineers study population growth and monitor air and water quality. They are concerned with reducing environmental pollution and combating the effects of global warming among many other topics.
Online Courses in Environmental Engineering
Study environmental engineering with online courses and programs from major universities and institutions around the world. Explore a wide variety of courses related to study of the environment including courses on solar energy engineering, wastewater treatment, carbon capture, sustainable development, biobased sciences and storm protection. Learn about natural resource management with courses on mining, oil and gas production, hydropower generation and more.
Start with two online courses from Delft University on the topics of drinking water management and sewage treatment, core areas of concern for environmental engineers. In the 7-week program on drinking water treatment, learn about conventional approaches to water treatment and understand the methods, evaluation criteria and quality levels used when designing and maintaining a water treatment facility. Become familiar with drinking water technologies and understand the physical and chemical processes involved in making water safe for human consumption.
The companion course on urban sewage treatment looks at the pollutants found in common urban sewage and the chemical and biological processes and procedures required to transform it into water that can be safely released back into the environment.
